Weekend window box makeover
Inexpensive window boxes take on natural country charm with rust-colored paint for the metal, and multi-shades of green and yellow for the coir liners. Paint the outsides only of the two surfaces separately, no need for perfect coverage. Tint the surfaces, and allow some of the original colors to show through. We used leftover paints: spray, acrylic, & watered-down latex. A brush with water will help blend the greens even more. When dry, replace coir into metal frame, add soil and plants, and grow more beautifully.

Lots of shades of green blended together for a "mossy" look.

The window boxes were originally dull black and tan. The new colors enhance and compliment our balcony corner plantings.
